SUNDAY 16TH SEPTEMBER 2018
This is a stunning ride across the beautiful open high heathland of Ashdown Forest with glorious views in all directions to the South and North Downs. The route is across land normally only open for riding to those with a permit from the Conservators of Ashdown Forest. The entire route is over the Forest tracks, with no roadwork whatsoever. Two minor roads are crossed. There is just one gate on the route which will be ridden through in both directions. The gate is easy to open and close on horseback but if you need to dismount there is a mounting stump adjacent to the gate.
Venue: Blackhill Car Park, Crowborough, East Sussex
By kind permission of the Ashdown Forest Conservators

Route Marking: Will be with spray chalk arrows on the ground.
Checkpoints: Riders are responsible for ensuring that the Checkpoint Steward records their number and that they approach the checkpoint from the correct direction.
Riding Safely: Competitors are reminded that they ride at their own risk. The Forest course is not a fast ride; it is hilly and sometimes on uneven ground which should be ridden with care.
Other Riders & Walkers: The Forest is a ‘place of amenity’ open to the Public and it is much used at the weekends by walkers and their dogs and other riders. There are grazing sheep and cattle loose in some areas, so please ensure that all gates are shut. Please show courtesy to others on the Forest. Riders reported for discourteous behaviour may be eliminated. Pass walkers slow and wide and ask beforeovertaking another rider, particularly those not taking part in the ride.
CREWS: Please display the rider’s number on your windscreens and drive with consideration for other people living locally and using the Forest.
ACCESS TO CREWING: Most of the course can be reached from the B2026 from Gills Lap Car Park down to Duddleswell and C3 from Duddleswell cross-roads to Friends Clump/Stonehill Car Parks. Please observe the 40mph speed limit on the roads across the Forest. Be aware that loose grazing sheep & cattle may be encountered on C3 within the grazing area (between the cattle grids). Please drive extremely slowly & carefully.
Car Parks for Crewing: All crew vehicles must be parked in an official forest car park. You must not crew beside the road. This will contravene the Ashdown Forest Byelaws which are strictly observed by the Forest Authorities. You may park in any official Forest Car Park for crewing purposes but must walk to meet the horse on the ride route to crew them. THE ONLY CAR PARKS ON THE ROUTE WHERE HORSES ARE ALLOWED INTO THE ACTUAL CAR PARK ITSELF ARE THE “HORSEBOX CAR PARKS” AT BLACK HILL (THE VENUE) and BOX (CP2). Taking a horse into any other official Forest Car Park will contravene the Ashdown Forest Byelaws.
